This Blog has a NEW NAME, called the Joy of Sewing Blog and I AM NEW AT WRITING IT it. My name is Carina Thavelin and I will be writing on the Joy of Sewing Blog while Lena is away on her adventure in Shanghai, China. During this year, I will share my sewing projects with tips and hints, take you behind the scenes at the Sweden office where we develop all the new products and show you all the exciting news that will be launched.
Carina Thavelin, Marketing product specialist for HUSQVARNA VIKING®, lives in Huskvarna, Sweden (Yes, the town is actually spelled with k not q :))
I am a tailor with a love for dresses - almost all my creative ideas starts with a dress. Could be anything from a picture of a designer dress that I'm inspired by or a thrifted vintage dress that I re-use and re-design. See a few snap shot pictures of my projects below.
The button dress:
I was inspired by a picture in a magazine and was lucky enough to come across a lot of old gold and silver buttons in the office. And yes, they are all sewn on with my sewing machine. It took me a while and I broke a few needles but it was definitely worth it. It's always a "showstopper".
The leather skirt:
I love to go thrifting and re-use old fabrics and clothes. This skirt is made of an old leather jacket, cut in strips and sewn on a basic skirt pattern. The jacket only cost me 10 SEK, about $1,50.
The black dress with white dots:
This outfit was inspired by the marketing material for the brand new OPAL™ sewing machines. In the brochure there are some nice projects made of black and white fabric, so when we presented and launched the machines for the Swedish dealers, I wanted to wear something to match the campaign. I came up with this outfit, the dotted dress and the striped wrap. It has become one of my favorites.
I hope you'll join me and make 2013 our most creative year ever!
